From Campus Racists to City Council

Austin Autonomedia: Keeping Austin Criminal

Over the past few months, as we have expanded the scope of this project beyond the UT campus, we have also kept a close eye on some of our old enemies in the Young Conservatives and Turning Point–including those who have graduated and are moving into other parts of the world. We know that the University is a training ground for the professionals of the future who will manage, control, exploit, and govern the world. While a lot of the YCT graduates have moved into work in conservative political parties and think tanks which applaud their activities at UT, some are slightly more vulnerable. 

Two former affiliates of the YCT, Anthony Dolcefino and John Stolz, are involved in a City Council Election in Houston. Anthony Dolcefino is running for City Council At-Large #4 in Houston and John Stolz is, according to his Facebook and Linkedin, working as his campaign manager. In the election last week, Dolcefino was among a number of candidates who advanced to a runoff election set to take place in December.

A couple days ago, the comrades with the Screwston Antifascist Committee published a report from Central Texas Anti-Racist Action exposing Dustin Ray Hamby as a prominent leader in the Neo-Nazi group Patriot Front. We had previously published an article about Hamby, when he worked at UT as a cook. While he no longer works at UT, we wanted to fill in some details about his time at UT that became clear after this new article. Be Gay, Do Crime: New Mixes From Jevx

It’s Pride month, AKA Be Gay & Do Crime month, and summer is just kicking off for those of us who get vacation time! To celebrate, here are two mixes from JEVX, an Austin-based Puerto Rican artist, DJ, and radical. Their Anarko Mix, described as “music for when you have finally fucking had it,” is an intense and energizing Gabber mix that’ll have you primed to throw a brick at the nearest cop. Their Pride Mix, on the other hand, summons the subversive forces of queerness with its injunction to “go drink piss in front of children.” Paired together, these mixes are bound to get you in the headspace to celebrate an insurrectionary, riotous Pride month.

Protests Against “Proud Boy” Dustin Casler Continue

Editor’s Note: In recent weeks, focus has been placed on the AT&T Conference Center Hotel near UT for employing a Proud Boy named Dustin Casler. As we have said in a previous article, The Proud Boys are a fascist, “Western chauvanist” group founded by Gavin McInnes. They’ve frequently been found to have connections and overlap with outright Neo-Nazi groups. One of the defining features of the Proud Boys is a thirst for violence, expressed in things like calls to attack immigrants and attacks on anti-fascists, people of color, queer & trans folks, and others in the streets. After this news initially came out, antifascists began flyering and calling in attempting to get Casler fired. This article follows up on recent events surrounding that campaign and includes instructions on how to call in to pressure the Hotel.

In the past week, a Proud Boy by the name of Cole Dreyer has exposed himself on social media. In a series of Facebook comments under a pro-choice post, Dreyer progressively escalates from spewing conspiracy theories about after-birth abortions to anti-black racism and rhetoric about “culling” Austin of left of center people, whom he calls “fascist terrorists.”

UT Works Because We Do: Grad Student Grade-In

On Monday, May 13th, around 50 graduate student workers joined Underpaid at UT in a “grade-in,” occupying the office of Maurie McInnis, Executive Vice President and Provost at UT Austin. The graduate workers held the space from around 10 AM until 1 PM. The grade-in came as a followup to the organization’s May Day rally, where a large group of graduate students, professors, and other allied students & community members delivered a petition to the UT administration and marched around campus in solidarity with the demands.

Texas State: Students Confront Fascism, Arrested, & Launch Sit-In Against Police Brutality

Press Release published by Resistance TXST. Resistance TXST is a coalition of Texas State University students advocating for the rights of underrepresented students on campus.

Background: On May 1st, Texas State students prepared for a confrontation with members of violent fascist group Texas Nomads, who planned to travel down from Austin and stage a rally in support of “free speech.” Members of Texas Nomads have repeatedly harassed liberal & leftist events in Austin, sometimes stalking people leaving these events. Members have assaulted anti-Trump protestors. Nomads member Christopher Ritchie was at the Charlottesville Nazi rally and has repeatedly gone to Portland to fight alongside Patriot Prayer. Their presence came as a response to a campaign & student government vote to ban Turning Point USA from campus.

Black Sovereign Nation Calls for Boycott of Austin Public Libraries

From now until August, Black Sovereign Nation’s No Sanctuary for Black Futures Campaign is calling for a boycott of Austin Public Library. We would like to send the library administration and the City of Austin a strong message that our community takes equity very seriously. The library is an amazing space at which Black youth should feel welcome, celebrated, and supported. Unfortunately, APL does not have policy or training that can engender that type of environment. Our ask is simple! Develop stronger policy so that our kids can return to the libraries, where they belong.
