3-7 PM at the Lamkin Paviliion in Jordan’s Place (AKA Rosewood Park)
This is an invitation to an experiment in self-organized, collective creativity & intelligence. We want to build a container to anchor the decentralized activities of SmashXSmashWest. A shared space and time where all kinds of people can come together. Somewhere to:
- get oriented to the coming week. A space to make connections, especially outside of your usual scenes
- enable people to connect from across the various places they’re coming from (locals and travellers alike)
- figure out last minute needs (for lodging, for an event)
- seek collaborators and propose ideas that could be workshopped and organized by the end of the week
- learn history, play games, and just hang out before the week gets really intense
In the autonomous DIY spirit of SmashX, we want to do this together, without guarantees. So this an invitation for YOU, for everyone coming to SmashXSmashWest, to show up to the kickoff event with something to offer. Together, let’s see what resources, skills, and knowledge we’re able to crowdsource and weave together. Offerings we would especially encourage:
- come decide what smashby is about by bringing supplies (sheets, painting supplies) for making banners and art that can be used at events throughout the week
- Musical offerings (instruments for group jams, speakers, etc.)
- interactive activities and games
- talks, discussions, and skill shares!
- Snacks, food, drinks, etc to share!
We want everyone who can make it–from event planners to protest organizers to traveling punks–to come and offer what they can! Let’s see what we can build (and what we can smash) together.
