Announcing the Austin Autonomedia Mailing List

Austin Autonomedia: Keeping Austin Criminal

Over the last few years our reach has unfortunately been diminished. The security & privacy risks of social media platforms, and their hostility towards projects like ours, has led us to abandon or be unable to access our former Facebook & Twitter accounts, and our reach on Mastodon only goes so far into the small anarchist galaxy. Most of our traffic has likely been from other sites re-posting & linking to content, or people in the local anarchist milieu sharing publications.

In order to expand our reach, we’ve launched a new mailing list! This mailing list will be a medium for communicating updates & new releases from the site to followers beyond the traps of social media. The mailing list is provided & managed through autistici, an anarchistic, privacy & security oriented tech services provider which also maintains the infrastructure for noblogs (the site we are on)

On the reappearance of local snitch Jesus Mares

Historical memory is often short on the left, but collective knowledge of the past is vitally important when it comes to  histories of repression and those who collaborate with the State against other factions of a movement–snitches.

In recent months, some comrades have noticed the reappearance of Jesus Mares in cultural and activist spaces around Austin. This was a shock to those of us who have not seen Jesus in the 7 years since he disappeared from movement spaces after collaborating with the State. In good faith, we presume that the people inviting or hosting him in these spaces are unaware of his history of snitching. Some of us who remember have collaborated to document and share this history, so that our movements may act with better information to insulate our spaces from the risks that Jesus’s presence poses.

Communique from some Texas State “Vandals”

To our fellow San Martians,

We typically prefer that actions speak for themselves, but perhaps a few words are due. In the face of renewed genocide and mass deportations, all that is left is what must be done. Taking up the task of disruption, sabotage, and attack is not something we do lightly. The people of Gaza have repeatedly called for mass student escalation. We’ve witnessed targeted deportations of politicized students, workers, and teachers with legal status; a wave of student protests repressed and occupations torn down, and paltry concessions rescinded by university admin.

Depose Doge: a reportback from SmashX25 weekend two

The sun was setting on the hottest March 14th yet in Austin, TX. Tesla representatives and a live Doge assembled in the Red River entertainment district to peddle their wares: efficiency worksheets and semen samples from the Big Boss himself. Passersby were offered the chance to charge their Tesla Trucks for free on the city’s dime, though relatively few took up the loose electrical wire.

Dancing in the Streets: Reflections from Rundberg (2025)

In February 2017, a spontaneous protest in response to ICE raids under a Trump presidency evolved into a party/riot that took over the intersection at Rundberg and Lamar. In 2017, anarchists and revolutionaries participated and reflected on this experience.
In February 2025, a protest against ICE raids under a Trump presidency on Rundberg announced via TikTok evolved into a party/riot/sideshow that took over the intersection and Rundberg and Rutland. In 2025, anarchists and revolutionaries again participated in, and are now reflecting on this experience.
In this transmission, we see another round of reflections on an anti-ICE rebellion on Rundberg, which builds upon our previous collection of reflections on the 2017 Rundberg Rebellion. We encourage these reflections to be read together to draw out the similarities between the moments we find ourselves in, and their differences. It is rare that we get to reflect on, compare, and contrast such similar conditions and truly consider, and actualize, what we might do differently. Some of the similarities are obvious–the location, the ways people slowly progressed from a sign-holding rally to a party that overtook the intersection itself. We might imagine that the location was not accidental, but that the memory of the 2017 revolt lives on and so drew people back to this intersection.

Luigi Rally, Austin TX

On December 21st, 6 Luigi’s took a couple banners to the Lamar pedestrian bridge in downtown Austin, and danced to the Mario theme song. Pedestrians, cheered, wrote letters to Luigi, and even took photos with the banners. Letters ranged from heart wrenching stories about family members being denied healthcare to love letters.  Flyers calling out Blue Cross Blue Shield, the largest health insurance company in Texas, were handed out. They read:

“On December 4th, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down. The bullet casings immediately explained the situation: this was an act of vengeance against UnitedHealthcare, who denies over 30% of health insurance claims.

Flood the Tech Core: A New Front Opens in Austin’s Movement for Palestine

On 10/7, the anniversary of the heroic Al-Aqsa Flood operation launched by the unified Palestinian resistance factions, a group of 30 people demonstrated at the BAE facility in Austin. The BAE office sits in a corporate park that also houses General Motors, 3M, Qualcomm, Infosys, Apple, and other tech companies. This corporate park was labelled the “Core of Genocide in Austin” as indicated by a banner at the demo.

An Anonymous Transmission From The Future

Today is May Day, and we have celebrated an entire week of our growing presence and resistance. On May Day, we honor the spirits of all revolutionary martyrs through struggle. We have celebrated today with a brilliant noise demonstration, breaking the University’s sonic stranglehold. Some friends have taken over the radio station and begun broadcasting messages of resistance from the camp and the Palestinian resistance. Every night we listen to the daily updates from Palestine and other liberated campuses, celebrating the many victories over occupying police & soldiers, learning from the tactics deployed & practicing them, and evaluating the obstacles & limitations we still have to overcome.

In the past week, we have grown so much. We are smarter, fiercer, and more capable than we ever could have imagined ourselves before last week. The University’s rules mean nothing to us, and the police can’t stop us, because there are so many of us here and we are so prepared that they are helpless.
